GILLETTE, Wyo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cloud Peak Energy and the Crow Tribe recently awarded over $65,000 in scholarships to students from the Crow Tribe who are pursuing higher education. Cloud Peak Energy will fund college and vocational scholarships annually, beginning with the 2013-2014 academic year, as part of the Option to Lease Agreement and Exploration Agreement reached earlier this year between the Crow Tribe of Indians and Big Metal Coal Co. LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cloud Peak Energy Inc.
“I would like to congratulate this year’s scholarship recipients who are demonstrating their commitment to higher education,” said Colin Marshall, Cloud Peak Energy’s President and CEO. “Cloud Peak Energy values education in our workplace and in our communities and is proud to support these Tribe members with their education as part of our agreements with the Crow Nation. I am pleased that the annual scholarships will bring immediate benefits to members of the Tribe at the start of what will be a long-term partnership.”
“I have long been an advocate for our Crow youth and their education. I want to thank Cloud Peak Energy for honoring that commitment and helping the future of the Crow Nation,” said Crow Tribal Chairman Darrin Old Coyote.
The scholarships will be paid over the course of two semesters. All recipients are members of the Crow Tribe and are currently attending higher education institutions.
